The piece that I was inspired by was "winter 1946" by Andrew Newell Wyeth. This piece portrays a dark clothed man moving down a vast hill on a brisk, cold day. The man has a blank stare on his face, and is casting a shadow.
I chose to do a piece focusing on the shadow. The way I could create something that is inspired by "Winter 1946" without replicating it. I took a small part of the painting and constructed a meaningful piece out of the minor detail. The shadow reveals the word "RUN" because thats what comes to mind when i observe the original painting. His body language depicts him moving swiftly, and his expression tells me he is puzzled. Running from something?
Materials used involved an old vegetable oil container, cloth, paint, a light, and a few scrap materials. The medium is not whats important, its the intangible shadow that comes out out of it. A crisp shadow comes out of some random materials. The paint on my piece is an abstract representation of the colors in the original painting.
